I chose two of the coaching horse studies Munnings did after a childhood memory that later became The Royal Carriage Entering the Long Walk, Windsor on the Return from the Ascot Races, 1925.
I very much enjoyed the play of the brush as it moved in and out of shapes seeming random but actually with intention. The paint feels like clay in these studies. They offer me a window into his process that can not beseen in more complete works.
