Because I often paint with a limited palette, I decided to attempt this one with two colors plus white. My colors were Transparent Red Oxide and Veridian Green, plus Titanium White. These are complimentary colors, but ones I rarely use. I wanted to try something completely new with this one. I started with the red oxide ground, which I left showing through. I found that I really like the harmony of these two colors together. I was very tempted to add a yellow or a blue, but I resisted the temptation. I wanted to see it through. As a result, these are colors I will use more often. I found the red oxide works about as well as the quinachridone burnt orange I usually go to for chestnuts. This photo is one I took when I visited Aiken, SC. I can't wait to get back there.
