The Wild Mustangs the High Pryor Mountains (MT) come to the small washes in summer to drink and to wallow in the mud as fly protection. I was teaching a workshop in WY and I challenged my art students to represent the muddy mustangs they photographed in an intense color key. I handed them Holbein colored gessos to start. This was my interpretation of the keyed up mustangs with a limited analogous palette of blue and purple with the addition of white.
I learned that I would like to do this again as a low keyed night scene.
