I used Indigo, Vandyke Brown, Naples Yellow Red and Zinc White.
In my regular paintings, indigo and vandyke brown are used in my shadow base, and I always use a tint of the naples yellow red in my highlights (never pure white!). I wanted to see what it would look like if I stripped away all the 'fun colours' and referenced a high contrast scene. I made my photo black and white as it's a really good technique to check your values. Despite the limitations, I still managed to make a colour distinction between the grey horse, beige house and sky.
